About the Story

Hidden Shadows is about a teenage werewolf, Night Black Star, who was born near Lake Chesswan. When she was eleven, nearby wolf packs attacked her pack, leaving none alive, save herself, who managed to escape. For three years she roamed the North, never staying long in any one place. One day a boy, Caliker, from the village Ardil found her crying on the stream bank by the forest. By some instinct, Night trusts him and reveals her true nature, as her past.

Six months later, fifteen year old Night Black Star is hunting when Caliker runs into the forest, seeking her. He warns her of a group of humans from his village coming to hunt her. He does not know how they found out, but he urges her to run. She flees, and looks back, seeing Caliker tackled and bound up by two men. She stops and watched in horror, but the humans had seen her and she is forced to run, vowing to rescue Caliker.

Werewolves can take three forms, human, wolf, and werewolf, whenever they choose. They are like any other race except for this difference. Silver cannot harm them, nor will the drawing of blood transform one into a werewolf. With the transformation ability comes the wisdom of three races, giving them a better perspective of the world.

There was a time when werewolves could walk freely among the wolves and humans, but that time was long ago, before the humans and wolves began to feel fear and jealousy of their superior strength and transformation abilities. Now werewolves must live alone and in fear of hunts. Should they band together, humans and wolves alike would attack in greater groups, and the werewolves would be forced to kill, many having been friends in times past and forgotten.
